Brooklyn: Ready for Anything, Annual Conference 2007 -- In times of crisis, community and faith-based organizations are especially important to immigrant communities. This forum, on Feb. 23, 2007, helped 200 leaders representing more than 150 community and faith-based organizations learn about the major issues faced in emergency preparedness and how community leaders can help make their communities safer. The forum served as a starting point for community leaders to discover just how prepared they are to handle a crisis, be it a terrorist attack or a blackout. Topics covered included: how to meet the challenge of storms that could flood out the coast of Brooklyn or how to work through a power outage. We also discussed how systems of all types can be more culturally sensitive to the diversity of Brooklyn . We Are All Brooklyn plans to hold additional planning and training sessions to promote inter-organizational communication and grassroots dialogues in aid in times of crisis and despair. |
