We Are All Brooklyn has developed a model for training community professionals, lay leaders and consumers in the identification and reporting of hate crimes. These training sessions, of which there have been eight trainings for more than 500 people, convene experts from a variety of agencies ranging from the Kings County District Attorney's Office to the New York City Police Department. The sessions instruct community leaders on how to respond to and prevent hate crimes and to navigate the investigative, prosecutorial and advocacy systems involved in preventing and prosecuting hate crimes. The trainings include preventing, reducing and responding to all aspects of racial strife, from racial tensions and bias incidents to the violent hate crimes themselves. |
Since 2002, We Are All Brooklyn has organized and convened dozens of forums, institutes and training sessions like those described above. We Are All Brooklyn regularly gathers together leaders for dialogue and action. We also have responded to hate crimes with press materials that have been widely disseminated and used to quell tensions.
